For our office in Luxembourg, we are currently looking for an In-house Legal Counsel Senior Officer. We offer a dynamic, and international corporate atmosphere as well as the benefit of customized training adapted to your needs throughout your career.

 

YOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Providing key support and advice to senior management and business lines in Luxembourg and other Civil Law countries in EMEA and APAC. The selected candidate would be working with the in-house Legal department and directly reporting to the Head of Legal Europe & APAC.
  • Operate as primary point of contact for the business to assist on advisory and contentious matters, and strategic and mitigation risk strategies.
  • Advising senior management and business lines in Luxembourg and Continental Europe on:
    • formal responses to client queries;
    • legal consequences of corporate and commercial documents;
    • generally act as trusted advisor to the Group’s senior management; and
    • assist with delivery of in-person training to upskill senior management and raise awareness or flag risks on liability and dispute related topics.
  • Working closely with the Legal team and the Head of Legal to:
    • advise on client related matters, canvassing, advising and supporting stakeholders;
    • maintaining a matter management database, preparing reports for internal and audit purposes, and building a risk escalation framework for efficient tracking and better management of matters and outside counsel;
    • instructing and managing external counsel on advisory/contentious matters, including critical analysis of counsel recommendations, and help managing fee budget and reserve setting;
    • promoting a cross-function approach and partnering with key control functions when advising Group senior management and business lines on contentious matter;
    • ensuring compliance with internal policies, procedures and standards as well as Alter Domus’ standard contracting process.

 

YOUR PROFILE:

 

  • University degree in law, completed by postgraduate studies in corporate or commercial law;
  • Three to five years relevant post-qualification experience in a leading law firm or in-house in a financial services provider;
  • Experience in commercial contract negotiations within the Financial Services sector, and proven track-record in dispute management;
  • Fluency in both spoken and written French and English is essential; other languages, in particular German, would be an asset;
  • Experience in any of the following areas would be beneficial, but not essential: financial services regulations and financial crime;
  • Experience in using legal technology platforms would be a distinct advantage;
  • Excellent verbal communication and drafting skills;
  • Excellent legal risk awareness and ability to work collaboratively with the business to deliver pragmatic outcome-focussed solutions to legal issues, without compromising on Alter Domus’ policies, protection and values;
  • Ability to represent views clearly and succinctly, and to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation;
  • Willingness and ability to develop expertise in new technical areas to consistently high standards.
