Junior Data Engineer

Alter Domus is seeking a Junior Data Engineer to join our Data Operations team. This team leverages cutting edge technology and domain knowledge to create products to solve challenges in the alternative investment space. The team is responsible for transforming unstructured and non-digital data into a structured and digitized format, which will be fed into various products. The team works directly on various new product designs along with other teams within the Data & Analytics group. This position will also work directly with the Head of Data Operations to insert quality control over various data processes, set standards, and assist with ad-hoc projects. There will be opportunities to work with domain experts in the alternative investment field on various data projects.



  • Perform quality checks on various data extraction, data transformation and data validation computer programs and processes. This includes: (1) Making sure the outputs generated by various computer programs match to the design, and (2) Reading and running Python, R or SQL programs to ensure the programs have covered all desired cases.
  • Collaborate with other team members to discover the best solutions
  • Follow consistent and secure practices to ensure data integrity and deal with imperfections in data
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of the technical design, operational support and maintenance procedures for data pipeline tasks
  • This role will also work with the head of Data Operations to set uniform data standards and write pseudo codes to set the logics for the programs from time to time.
  • This role will also help on ad-hoc projects including writing Python programs or help set standards for databasing.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Finance, or other quantitative fields
  • 0-3 years of experience in Finance or Engineering
  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, good knowledge in R is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills including attention to detail is a must
  • A focus on outcomes and quality of output
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Basic database knowledge
  • Empathetic and a team player
  • Above average communication skills (written and verbal)
