The Role

We are looking for an API Developer who builds the platform APIs other teams depend on, and runs them in production. You will write the code in TypeScript and Python, and you will own the Kubernetes deployments, pipelines and monitoring that keep it running.

These are platform APIs, so your users are other developers. That changes how you work: an API only succeeds if it is easy to adopt. We want someone who puts themselves in the user’s shoes before shipping.

Roles & Responsibilities

Building Platform Capabilities

  • Design and build APIs in TypeScript and Python that other teams use as building blocks
  • Treat other developers as your customers. Talk to them, understand how they will integrate, and design for that
  • Write clear OpenAPI contracts, useful documentation and error messages that actually help the caller
  • Pick sensible defaults so the common case works with minimal setup
  • Keep versioning and backwards compatibility in mind, so adopting your API today does not create work for someone tomorrow

Deployment & Operations

  • Package services as containers and deploy them to Kubernetes, writing and maintaining your own Helm charts
  • Ship through GitOps with Flux, so what is in the repository is what is running in the cluster
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions for automated testing, building and release
  • Configure the API layer in front of your services: routing, authentication, rate limiting and versioning
  • Instrument your services with OpenTelemetry so traces, metrics and logs show you a problem before a user reports it
  • Debug issues across application code, infrastructure and networking

Working in the Team

  • Take a problem with its context and come back with a proposal. You will not be handed a solution to implement
  • Review other people’s code and take review well on your own
  • Work with security and operations to keep services aligned with our controls

Qualifications & Skills

Must Have

  • 3–5 years building production APIs, comfortable in both TypeScript and Python
  • Good grasp of API design and OpenAPI (REST conventions, versioning, error handling, pagination)
  • Real Kubernetes experience: you can debug a pod that will not start, not just deploy to a cluster someone else built
  • Hands-on with Docker and Helm
  • CI/CD experience, ideally GitHub Actions
  • Familiar with authentication patterns such as OAuth2, OIDC and JWT
  • Working knowledge of relational databases
  • You use AI tools every day, to get up to speed on unfamiliar technology, to explore options before committing, and to move faster on routine work, while still understanding what you ship. Tell us how you use them.
  • Able to work autonomously, raise questions early and own a piece of the platform end to end
  • Fluent in English

Nice to Have

  • API gateway experience such as Kong, a plus and not a requirement. We will train the right person
  • GitOps tooling such as Flux or Argo CD
  • OpenTelemetry and an observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo or similar)
  • Event-driven architectures and messaging (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, Azure Service Bus)
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS or Azure)
  • Terraform basics, enough to provision your own databases, caches and queues
  • GraphQL
  • Previous platform engineering or developer experience work
  • Background in financial services or another regulated industry

Mindset

We are looking for someone who:

  • Thinks about the developer on the other end of the API, and asks "would I want to integrate with this?" before shipping
  • Enjoys building the foundations other people build on
  • Is curious and self-directed, you research what you do not know rather than waiting to be taught
  • Uses AI as a normal working tool, not a novelty, and stays critical of what it gives back
  • Is comfortable owning a service from the API contract through to production
  • Prefers asking a good question early over guessing quietly
